A United force for the
protection of fire fighters across the globe. For the first time
in history over 350,000 fire fighters and emergency services
workers from around the globe have formed a powerful alliance to
foster improved conditions for members, their families and the
communities in which they live and work.
A global alliance
Firefighter union representatives
from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the
United States have joined forces in a combined front to fight
for better wages, benefits, pensions and health and safety for
members and their communities.
Because of the common threats to
our members’ livelihoods, and the failure of our respective
governments to provide the standards and resources needed to
protect the health and safety of fire fighters and citizens, we
are establishing a global partnership.
Through this partnership, we commit
our organisations to pursue a formal and strategic relationship
that will strengthen our ability to fight back against
government threats and trends that put our members at risk.
Why we came together
-
Establish and promote close collaboration and cooperative
relations between our affiliated unions
-
Assist and strengthen our affiliates in efforts to organize
and represent our members
-
Establish and promote strategies to elect and/or have
appointed fire fighter-friendly decision makers
-
Provide formalised access to information sharing among our
affiliates
-
Assist and defend our affiliates against attacks by
governments, employers or other organisations;
-
Promote and facilitate the coordination and cooperation by
our affiliates in political activities;
-
Foster diversity in our member unions and our profession,
and oppose discrimination because of race, colour, creed,
national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability;
and
-
Take all other necessary and proper actions to further the
interests of the Alliance and our member organisations.
Work together, win together
Cooperation among workers, whether
at the inter-national, state or municipal level, is as necessary
for firefighting industry unions as it is in other sectors. We
know that our employers increasingly communicate and strategise
on a regional and global basis against our members. We now must
fight back with a more powerful alliance to ensure that global
standards are improved, rather than allowing small-minded
governments to bring the standards down.
